Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Hut
A short but steep climb brings you to Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330 m), set beneath the jagged spires of Mawenzi. This is one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful campsites, with a small lake reflecting the peaks. The afternoon is spent resting or taking a short acclimatization hike.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Hut to Kibo Hut
You cross the alpine desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The trail is long but gradual, leading to Kibo Hut (4,700 m), your base camp before the summit attempt.

At midnight, you begin the final ascent. The climb is steep and demanding, passing Gilman’s Point (5,681 m) and Stella Point (5,739 m) before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, you descend all the way to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) for a well-earned rest. The following morning, you continue down to Marangu Gate to conclude your trek.
