🌋 Ol Doinyo Lengai – 2 Days / 1 Night Adventure Itinerary
The Sacred Mountain of the Maasai. The only active carbonatite volcano on Earth. A climb for true explorers.
Day 1: Arusha / Mto wa Mbu → Lake Natron
Morning
- Depart from Arusha or Mto wa Mbu and drive north toward the dramatic Rift Valley landscapes.
- Scenic stops along the way for photos of Maasai villages, rolling plains, and volcanic formations.
Afternoon
- Arrive at Lake Natron area and check in to your lodge/camp.
- Enjoy lunch and relax as you take in views of Ol Doinyo Lengai rising sharply from the valley floor.
Evening
- Guided walk to Lake Natron to see flamingos and the surreal salt flats.
- Early dinner and rest — the climb begins before midnight.
Day 2: Midnight Ascent → Summit → Return

- Begin the ascent under a sky full of stars. The climb is steep and challenging, but incredibly rewarding.
Dawn
- Reach the summit of Ol Doinyo Lengai.
- Witness sunrise over the Rift Valley, Lake Natron, and the endless plains — a breathtaking moment.
- Explore the crater area (conditions permitting) and take photos of the unique volcanic formations.
Morning
- Descend back to the base and transfer to the lodge for a well‑earned breakfast and rest.
Late Morning / Afternoon
- Optional: Visit the Engaresero waterfalls for a refreshing swim.
- Begin the drive back to Arusha or Mto wa Mbu.
